This isn't a recipe but more of a tip. I absolutely love coffee and am completely addicted to it, so I care about how it tastes and about the quality of it.
This tip might seem obvious but so many people don't follow it. The tip? Grind fresh beans as often as you can, don't buy pre-ground coffee in a packet, even if it is vacuum sealed 'to preserve the freshness'. That stuff is not fresh, no matter what they say.
If you have never had real freshly ground coffee then please, please go out and try it somewhere. You will be astonished at the difference it makes.
Unfortunately, I don't have a coffee grinder myself but I can go to a shop near where I live and get some of the highest quality beans in the world ground freshly for me. I tend to buy small amounts so that the coffee I make is as fresh as possible at all times.
I would just put beans in to my blender to grind them up but it seems that the process of grinding coffee is not that simple. Apparently, if you use blades to grind coffee it creates a bitter taste whereas if you use a burr grinder you get a much richer and better taste. This is why I haven't brought a grinder yet, they can be a bit expensive. One day I will though, then I can have freshly ground coffee everyday. Mmmm.
If you only drink freeze-dried coffee...well, maybe there's no hope for you!
I used to use Folger's from the Costco size jug, until I had some really REALLY fresh coffee at a pal's place. You are NOT kidding about how huge a difference it makes. I grind my own every other day now :)
ReplyDeletei try to stay away from it as much as possible. it's damn good, but I don't want to get addicted. :P
ReplyDeleteI love freshly ground beans in the house. Also its nice to chew on a couple if you're in a hurry and just want a quick ZAP.
ReplyDeleteI've had the really good coffee, but it sucks because 90 percent of the coffee I drink is at work, and there is no way they would buy anything but Folgers. :(
ReplyDeletei drink coffee for the caffeine and not for the taste so .-.
ReplyDeleteDo you know where I can get it?
ReplyDeleteElement, the coffee in the top image? I don't think you would be able to buy unless you are in Costa Rica. However, there is a company that exports beans, Britt, they do very good quality coffee. I've found some coffee from the same volcano here that you can buy, should be just as good if not better - http://tinyurl.com/3o8yuos
ReplyDeleteI actually don't like coffee, but I'll tell my friends about the ground beans
ReplyDeleteNever really liked coffee but maybe its because Ive only been having the cheap stuff, if I ever get the chance I'll be sure to try this out
ReplyDeleteI've actually had this stuff before, can't remember where it was, but it was very good.
